straight acting

When a gay man puts the word “straight acting” in an on-line dating profile it’s not just the worst pick up line it’s a sure sign he is very unsure of his masculinity Out in the straight world things are different. This happened on a one of ABC’s recent Bachelorette Programs. Clint Arlis, a 27-year-old architectural engineer from Illinois shocked the audience when he gave his rose to JJ Lane, another bachelor. He said, “Falling in love with a man never crossed my mind.” He also said he liked JJ because he acted like a straight man. What he meant was JJ didn’t express any of the hang-ups usually associated with gay men. I found that strange. Why are gay men who for all intents and purposes normal such an anomaly? Some of us have been doing it ever since we came out. In San Francisco gay men who are comfortable with their sexuality are considered normal and we don’t call them anything; we simply accept them.
